“Having a child is one of life’s most significant milestones. In birth there is not one right way to have a child. Each person comes to parenthood with their own circumstances. I became a midwife to increase birth choices for families. I consider it an honor to be invited to care for families during this amazing time.”

Deepa is a U.S. trained midwife, nurse and nurse practitioner. She holds a Masters Degree in Nurse Midwifery and a Bachelors Degree in Nursing.

Deepa has worked as a midwife and a nurse in many places in the world including Dublin, Scotland and the United States in Oregon, Washington, and Minnesota. In fact, Deepa met her Irish husband in Afghanistan while volunteering as a midwife with Doctors | Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres).

Deepa and her husband and two daughters moved to the Comox Valley from the West coast of Scotland in 2008.

Deepa is currently taking a hiatus from midwifery to be with her small children and plans on working as a midwife in B.C. in the near future. She misses being with families during the childbearing years and enjoys working with the midwives at the The Birth Tides Clinic as a second attendant for homebirths.

Deepa’s other passions are running, piano, yoga, gardening, and especially her family. She also loves to write and has several writing projects going all the time. You can see her pregnancy related articles in www.ourbigearth.com (search keyword: “Deepa” to locate archived articles).
